Hey y’all! When it comes to the ag blog, I’ve been trying to provide information and my opinion on topics related to the agricultural industry. Aside from my “about me”, I haven’t really discussed with yall why I got started in ag business. Well, today I am.
I have had a love for horses since I came from the womb. So, at 4 years old, my parents bought me my first horse. He was a tall, gray Arabian/Quarter Horse cross that was way too big for his breed. Cowboy was also kind of a jerk. I loved him with everything I had. Cowboy lived with us until after I left for college where he then became another little girl’s first horse. Even though I had many other life-changing horses come and go throughout my life, Cowboy remained the reason for who I am today. He taught me patience, kindness, and a love for animals and the outdoors that one can only imagine. With Cowboy under my saddle, anything was possible.
My love for Cowboy and everything he stood for quickly stemmed into an overall love for any animal that was considered “livestock”. As I grew, I became more and more fascinated by the way animals functioned in general. Horses were my main focus, but cattle took my heart as well. During a high school summer job, I had the opportunity to start my journey learning the cattle industry. During the summer months, I learned just as much, if not more, about cattle than I knew about horses. Which was a shocking amount of information for a 17-year-old. So, at the crossroads of high school graduation and what I want to do with the rest of my life, I chose the agricultural industry.
Since then, I have immersed myself in anything and everything that I could learn about this wonderful way of life. I challenge myself every day to continue learning about the various forms of agricultural production along with the processes of bringing all we do on the farm, to the table in front of us. Each and every day, I learn something new. Which serves as a constant reminder why I got into this business in the first place. This world continues to fascinate me. Hopefully, it will continue to fascinate you too.
